Brainspotting
A cutting-edge therapeutic approach grounded in the neurobiology of healing, effective for trauma, anxiety, and performance enhancement.
Brainspotting
Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing, and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation, and a variety of challenging symptoms. It is a brain-based therapy that harnesses the body's natural self-scanning and self-healing abilities.
Developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003, Brainspotting operates on the belief that the human brain harbors an inherent healing mechanism. By identifying and focusing on 'brainspots' – specific eye positions that correlate with stored trauma or emotional distress – this technique harnesses the brain's natural capacity to process and release long-standing emotional burdens.
For Adults
Brainspotting has shown effectiveness for a wide range of challenges, including:
- Trauma and PTSD
- Anxiety and Stress Management
- Depression and Mood Disorders
- Performance Enhancement (cognitive, creative, athletic)
- Chronic Pain and Physical Conditions with Emotional Components
- Recovery from Addictions
- Processing Grief and Loss
For Children
Brainspotting can be adapted for work with children in a developmentally appropriate way. For younger clients, we incorporate:
- Behavioral Challenges
- Emotional Regulation
- Anxiety and Trauma Resolution
- Attention and Focus Difficulties
- Performance Enhancement (academic, athletic, artistic)
For children, we adapt the Brainspotting process to be engaging and age-appropriate, often incorporating games, art, and storytelling techniques.
Session Information
Brainspotting sessions are available via telehealth, offering convenience and flexibility. A typical session lasts 50-60 minutes, though initial sessions may be longer to allow for thorough assessment and introduction to the process.
Benefits of Brainspotting
- Accesses deep brain processing for profound healing
- Often works quickly compared to traditional talk therapy
- Minimal talking required – ideal for those who find it difficult to verbalize experiences
- Body-centered approach that acknowledges the physical components of emotional experiences
- Can be effective when other therapies have reached a plateau
